Population
The population of Greater Western Sydney today stands at 1.85 million. Over the past nine years, GWS has recorded population growth which has consistently exceeded both Sydney and NSW.
The popularity of the Greater West as a place to live shows no sign of slowing over the coming years, with high annual growth rates forecast to bring the region’s total population to over 2.3million people by 2026. Population growth in Greater Western Sydney is projected to continue to exceed both Sydney (average and annual growth of 0.9%) and NSW (average and annual growth of 0.8%) over this period.
Blacktown is the largest population centre in Greater Western Sydney, accounting for 15.3% of the total GWS population in June 2005. Fairfield, Penrith, Bankstown and Liverpool are the next largest population centres in GWS.
